Q: What exactly is DanceWorks Chicago?
A: DanceWorks Chicago is an organization committed to the growth of individual artistry, experience, and responsibility. It is a place where connections happen, relationships are valued and nurtured, and the spirit of excellence binds a vibrant community.

Q: Is DanceWorks Chicago a dance company?
A: As part of the organization there will be a company component to DWC, consisting of 6 dancers, 3 men and 3 women, who refine their craft and share their art form through classes, rehearsals, showings, and performances. Because the organization values the process as well as the product, DWC will place equal emphasis on the development of artists as well as the creation and presentation of dances.

Q: Is DanceWorks Chicago a service organization?
A: While not a service organization in the traditional sense, DWC strives to be a good dance citizen by sharing its experiences with the dance community locally, nationally, and internationally.

Q: What does it mean to be a good dance citizen?
A: DWC is concerned with creating community within our own organization and promoting a sense of responsibility within the field to contribute to the art form and move it forward.

Q: What kind of dance does DanceWorks Chicago create/perform?
A: DWC concentrates on investigating, creating, and sharing a diverse body of work made by contemporary artists. Contemporary in both senses of the word: artists currently creating as well as contemporary in movement sensibilities.

Q: Where can I see DanceWorks Chicago?
A: Everywhere! Look for opportunities to see us in the studio in class and rehearsal as well as in performance throughout the Chicago area. A good place to start would be in our Datebook on our website!

Q: What are you looking for in a dancer?
A: We are looking for dancers with technical ability, mental agility, emotional availability, and a sense of adventure.

Q: How are choreographers selected?
A: Choreographers are welcome to submit work samples at any time for review by the artistic director. Opportunities to see work in rehearsal or in live performance are also appreciated.

Q: How can I become part of the DanceWorks Chicago family?
A: Sign up for our mailing list to be sure that you have the latest information. Attend an event (or two). Bring a child to dance.

Q: How does mentorship fit into the picture at DanceWorks Chicago?
A: Believing that we all have the capacity and responsibility to lead, mentorship is integral to creating community and to sustainability within the art form as leadership moves through generations.

Q: How can I become part of DanceWorks Chicago's "movement"?
A: We need movers, shakers, volunteers, contributors, and collaborators of every kind.  Bring your ideas, your energy, your optimism, and your team spirit - join the movement!!
